I’ll have some of Jordan’s background here for ya in a bit, but first I’d like to highlight some big changes:

1. You have moaned and I have listened!! Bottom Floor is packing up and moving east… This event will be held at the Medusa Lounge, a pretty darn apt spot for a party called Bottom Floor. Looking forward to connecting where it’s most convenient for you.

2. I’m really frickin’ excited to announce that joining me as co-resident will be Ms. Reg Xelle. We’ve been musically click click clickin’ since the first time she played for me, and on top of that she’s sweet as pie through and through. But you knew that!! Can’t wait to see what we can make happen together. Please come support Reg and consider this date a full-on celebration of all that she is and all that she’s done for everyone around town.

Track Mode Recordings (TMR) was one of those rare labels that I would buy every record that made its way in, without even bothering to listen to it. With solid and steady releases from the likes of Alton Miller, Anthony Nicholson, Boo Williams, Chez Damier, Gene Hunt, Glenn Underground, Jordan Fields, Jovonn, Kai Alcé, Larry Heard, Norm Talley, Rick Wade, and Theo Parrish… There was never any regret when I got ‘em home.

Not just the man behind the label, Brett’s own productions and collaborations make up a healthy portion of the TMR catalog. If you were in Detroit this year for the Movement Festival, then you know that he headlined “Deep in Detroit” along with Omar S. and Kai Alcé - the party that had all the ‘heads talking for weeks afterward. It’s also worth noting that Brett has arguably the best *real* last name a DJ could ever wish for!

Maybe if we show him enough love, we can get him to consider opening up the TMR vaults for some repressings. Let’s try reeeeal hard.

If you made it out in June for Kai Alcé, you know for sure we’re on the right track down here. Next up, we may very well bust off the rails as we buy another plane ticket and push the “Welcomes:” series full steam ahead…

Please join us for a rare performance by Chris Brånn, a man whose early records (such as Wamdue Project’s “The Deep EP”) just about define the sound Bottom Floor was founded upon.

Chris hardly finds time to emerge from the studio to share his creations with an audience… When he does, he typically leaps right over the States in favor of Japan or some far off land that “gets it.” It’s anyone’s guess as to what “it” will be on the 28th, as for this event Chris is preparing all-original material in both the audio and visual realms. Though, for my part, be sure I’ll be gently nudging him to incorporate some of that early Wamdue feel. ;)

Given that the man wears roughly 3000 different musical hats and cranks out projects of such a broad scope and impressive rate, I’ll just say this:

This could go warehouse.

This could go art house.

This could go both.

Throughout a widespread assortment of productions for Wamdue Project, P’Taah, and Ananda Project (which have appeared on over 800 compilations combined), twenty albums, and over one hundred singles, as well as remixes for artists such as Seal and KD Lang, Chris Brann has shown a dynamic range with interests that span far beyond any singular soundscape or musical culture.

Brann emerged from Atlanta’s burgeoning underground music scene in the 1990’s after being discovered by Bernard Rhodes, former manager of The Clash and cohort of Malcom McLaren. He left high school early to assist Rhodes in the production of bands under his management company in the UK.

A self-taught musician, his first productions were brought to the attention of legendary dance music label, Strictly Rhythm who signed him to an unprecedented multi-album recording deal under the name Wamdue Project. “King Of My Castle” from Wamdue Project’s second album produced for Strictly Rhythm, went on to sell over 2.5 Million units and became the label’s highest selling single in its history. It debuted in the #1 position of the UK charts and outsold the expected top seller of the week, Cliff Richard.

After riding the buzz of international success with Wamdue Project, Brann then went on to piece together two distinctively different projects, Ananda Project and P’taah. Whereas P’taah became an outlet for his fusion jazz, abstract hip hop, and experimental leanings, Ananda Project proved to be a favorite amongst deep house purists and global lounge/chill out DJ’s. Signature songs of Ananda Project such as ‘Cascades of Colour’ and ‘Kiss Kiss Kiss’ have appeared in advertising for such brands as Toyota (Japan) and Johnny Walker.

In addition to a steady output of original releases, Brann has also been at the controls of remixes for artists such as Bebel Gilberto, Esthero, Boney James, Everything But The Girl, Seal, Tweeker feat. David Sylvian, R Kelly, Amel Larrieux, Susanna Baca and Thomas Newman’s theme for HBO’s series Six Feet Under.

Currently for 2011, Brann is preparing to release his first solo album in almost 10 years. Recorded within the span of a single month in a Brooklyn highrise, Brann played all of the instruments as well as writing, producing and singing the songs. Initially devised as a personal soundtrack for walking through the streets at night, it evolved into a cathartic exercise, documenting a process of change and growth, both personally and musically.

This project is a return to form for Brann as he channels many of the musical influences of his youth. From David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto, the early 80’s work of seminal artist Bill Nelson to Leonard Cohen and Kate Bush. Brann describes this work as “the album I would have made when I was 16…if I had had the technology and musical proficiency. It took me my entire musical career to end up at the point where I had started many years ago.”

Continuing his legacy of working on many different projects at once, Brann is also releasing a new album by P’taah in Japan 1st quarter of 2011, as well as new material by Ananda Project and Wamdue Project.
